Well, I just installed a new set of subs in place of my Tumults. The Tumults were just simply too abused to work right anymore. I am still amazed they lasted as long as they did...... So, what do you replace a couple of Tumults with? XXX 18s, for sure......
I had to cut the holes in the cabinets bigger, and make a few other minor changes, but other than that it worked out well. The XXXs modeled decent in my boxes so I decided yo go with it. Also, I noticed my group delay was almost moved an octave lower according to BBpro.... Where the peak started to begin at 25Hz with the Tumult, it doesn't do much untill about 15Hz with the XXX. The low end response fell about 5 db at 20Hz, but with a much higher effieciency now, greater power handling and much more displacement, I have what feels to be much louder outptut down low than I ever had before. I'm also running a 6th order slope @60Hz, so it sums up to a pretty flat response...
Output? Just plain stupid...... I think I finally found some subwoofers that will get loud like I want them to. SQ is amazing, they sound awsome.... I listened to about 30 different CDs last night and everything sounded great...
Also, I figured I might need some more AC power so I ran another 40amp circuit from my house mains box on dual runs of 10awg to the power amps... Now, the voltage is so stiff, that at some frequencies I will actually pop the 20 amp circuit breakers on the amps BEFORE clipping (Well over 2.5KW each).... In other words, I GOT ME SOME POWA!
