Hello,

Since I don't have enough money to really build my towers yet (when I do it will be a pair of extremis on each with some nice tweets) I need to find a cheap replacement 8" woofers since the old one's are completely done (torn surround).

I checked Madisound and it looks like most are around 70bucks and up. I don't really want to pay that much since this isn't going to be a permenent thing.

Any rec's for cheap 8"s that sound good. I'm not worried about them being able to play a whole lot of bass the room is small.

Volume of sealed cabinet is 1.2cuft, power not more than 60wrms at 8ohms, no I can't go to 4ohm.

I checked parts express but I'm not familiar with what brands are worthwile.

thanks,
b

Madisound had some really nice Clarion oem 8's, but the sold out

Look at Dayton Audio subs on Parts Express. From what I hear, most everything they make is decent. IIRC, they had some around 40 bucks and under.

The Dayton Classic 8's really aren't that bad for about $20 a pop....

yeah that really pisses me off that they sold out of those OEM clarions... those were going to be my weapon of choice for all future installs. nothing like a 8" for $20 after shipping.

thanks guys, I wound up buying a pair of Swan 8a's.

Here are the specs

M8a Bass-Midrange Nominal Impedance (Z)(O) : 8 Resonance Frequency (Fs)(Hz) : 33 Nominal Power Handling (Pnom)(W) : 80 Max Power Handling (Pmax)(W) : 160 Sensitivity (2.83v/1m)(dB) : 88 Weight (M)(Kg) : 2.5 VC Diameter (mm) : 35

they rec a 28L box tuned to 40hz.

I guess I should just build a new box instead of putting nice speakers in a crappy old box with nasty tweets.

Any recs on tweets and making a crossover (are the ones from dayton prefab any good). I've built various boxes and such but I've never designed a crossover (yes i can solder)

any help is appreciated
