"Baffle step defraction design (the tweet moves that way it can be the same distance from the listening position as the center of the mid driver. At first I thought this idea was just hifi bullchit but if you close your eyes while listening and someone else moves the tweets around you can really hear it. the best distance I've found is about 4" back from the front baffle."
I notice the same thing. You move the tweeter back and forth and until it seems like a single point source. You can tell when it locks in.
Nice work.

ALERT! BRIAN!
YOU HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY UNSTACK THOSE INDUCTORS!!!!!!!
That could really screw up the crossover frequency. When designed, we used both values in an additive form completely isolated from each other. You have combined the fields and now the inductance will be different do to the geometry of the windings and coupling. More than likely you have seriously lowered the woofer x-over.......
Change it, let me know how it sounds....

oh, I had no idea.
can I put em side by side then? As they are right now they are separated by a thin piece of foam if that makes any diff.
And what was the total inductace used in case I want to buy just one.
And the inductor are the red coily things right?

Yes the red coils. If you want to buy single ones, which would be fine, just buy some that are the value of the two added together. We used 18 awg coils, I would stick with that same gauge. Read this, then stick your inductors on the board- http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/TechPapers/Crosstalk.pdf

Same thing more or less applies with transformers.

So I can place one flat (spare tire on the ground rim against the ground) and the other one a few inches away and standing upright? (wheel upright).
Thanks for noticing that, maybe my amp doesn't sound that bad I just messed up the whole xover.
I don't have an inductor on the tweet though right? because as of right now I have the inductors in series on the woofer.
If I had just one inductor I wouldn't have this problem right?
As of right now I have the pos input connected to both the inductors in series as well as the tweet 16uf and 1.5uf (in parallel) does this make a differenec.
Should I just make two separate x over boards for each speaker will that do anything positive?
sorry for all the questions but it's better to know than not.

One board is fine, and yes when you get a single inductor it won't matter. The caps won't really effect each other at all, just the inductors due to the magnetic field they generate.

Update,
I bought a used amp (Adcom GFA 5500) and an Adcom GTP 400 preamp. These made a huge difference compared to my waayyyyy cheap japanese receiver, but the tweets still make me cringe on some songs.
If i listen to some recordings they sound just fine and they aren't too bright, but on others the treb is just way too forward (especially on Norah Jones coming home again) perhps I need to put a bit more resistance on the tweet? any ideas
thanks, b

I'm down to be on the forum it just seemed like everyone else left. I guess that was contageous.
The new gear is sweet I like my amp and my preamp. I tried running my TC sounds 9 off of my adcom and it punished it test tones quite easily. I didn't really know how much stroke that thing had until I put 12hz tones to it a high volume.
Yeah I just got the Adire 81's today and I only had time to take one out of the box for a short listen but then it turned into 15mins of flipping through cds. They sound absolutly great. Super flat, voices are really realistic, not a whole lota bass but that not what I wanted or needed with these.
Funny thing is the treble is noticibly louder on the adire's but it doesn't make me cringe like my other two ways. I think i have a peak around 1-3k it could be that woofer cone breaking up or something of that nature.
Honestly I can't believe how good that one adire 8.1 sounds! I'm super happy, and Marshall was really cool about shipping and all.
Does anyone know what tweet is used in the 81 and what the original cost would have been. Adire says the new extremis two way is even better, so I'm just trying to hold my bank account together and not buy a pair of Apex's and a pair of Tumults
