Well, I just bought our tickets to fly home for a month on 27 March.  I have alot of projects that will be ongoing, but a fun one will be a system for my brother's (BRONCOMARIO) Jeep Cheroke..

He has an SX 15 I had David build a few years ago with dual 4 ohm coils.  He also has a MD2 for power, so he will have about 1000 watts at the SX impedance, should work great...

I will build him a very stout box (of course)...  I still haven't decided on sub and port back or sub up port back.  The only thing keeping me from sub and port back is the height of the box may be above the back seat line.... Which I don't want....  I'll figure it out when I get back there.

He'll also have a Red Top under the hood and all 1/0 welding cable for everything including the alt, batt and amp.....

I ordered a PAC trunk-loc today for this...  And a big-mofo soldering iron off of ebay to use at home in the states....  I needed something to solder the 1/0 ends on after we crimp them.....

I've used a hot air gun for soldering the 1/0 ends. It was on the max setting and as close as possible to the wire. Insulation had no problems with the head and the soldering job held up ok. Not sure if it's as good as using a big soldering gun.

Please post pics. I've got a Cherokee too and love to see other installs in that car Smiley

With a big soldering iron you can get it done in about 15 seconds and not overheat anything, that is what I like...

I'll get some good pictures of everything as we build and post them up.

I think I may end up going sub up port back so you can't see the box...

Agreed that a soldering iron is better. I'll break the budget and buy one pretty soon... By the way, did you get it from ebay.de ? Any chance you have a link ?

Can't wait for some build pictures Smiley

I did get it on ebay.com

It was about $18 including shipping, brand new...  I think they are used for stained glass or copper/sheetmetal work....

If I can find the link again I'll let you know.  Most of them are going to be 120V on ebay.com though, your 230V, right?

No rush with the link, I'll poke around here to look for one.
Yes, we have a 230v mains supply.

I finished the box last night.  It ended up being 4ft3 tuned at 30Hz.  I ended up giving it a 1 1/2" thick baffle for a little added rigidity.  It looks good, I carpeted it grey.  I'll post some pics up in the next few days, I think we'll install everything next week.

One thing I noticed, my brother's SX 15 had the dust cap starting to unglue in a few places, I think he may have had something touching the cone when it was playing in the last box.  Luckily, my father in law had a bottle of gap-filling super glue, so I patched it up, I think it will hold up fine...

I also grabbed the 1/0 my brother had ordered from weldingdepot.com, it looks real nice.  As does the Merlin MD2.

I tried the big-ass soldering iron out on the speaker wires, soldering them to the Neutrik speakon jack....  It was tricky manuvering that big fucker around such small connections, but it worked fine...

I'll update this in a few more days...

I'm back.  We spent the first week in Spokane looking for property to buy, but it was a bust.  We had a shitty realator and could find anything we wanted.  We were there when it snowed a few inches....

We'll be back next year to try it again, we are back in Seattle now...

Everything is done.  System wangs super hard.  The Md2 has some balls...

One problem... PAC Trunk LOCs are POS....  This is the second one I have had that drops the remote turn-on voltage to the amp when you really start cranking the volume...  It is annoying as hell....  There is no way in hell I will ever buy another one of these units.  I bypassed the remote turn on portion and have decided to trigger the amp with the ignition voltage instead.  There are no pops, clicks or igntion noise under any circumstances...  I think I got lucky here.  I just can't figure out why these things crap out like this...  I think it may be some kind of feedback caused by high levels of bass...

On the flip side, the box sounds real good.  All types of music sound great.  Output is higher than just about any single 15 setup I have heard...  It flat out wangs....

I'll put up some pics in the next day or so...
