My buddy has an scion XB and has decided to toss a wall in the back.

He works at CC and got 4mtx 7500s 15s and a pair of 1500s to power it for like nothing.

I have have two questions for you guys...   anyone work with the 7500s?  If so what kinda enclosure should we build?  Sealed, ported?  I am not all about experimenting and I was just gonna toss them in like 3.5-4cf each with like 40-50" or so of port area a piece.  Tune em to like 34 and see what the hell happens.

Also, anyone toss a wall in the xB and have any tips for me?  I start in two mondays.

I'd say 3.5 cubes...sure..
Tune lower to make it more bullet proof.
if you tune it lower it will last longer for him.
Figure 170-200 sq inches of port.
200 is ideal....
subs on passenger side....port on his......
do a proper one.
2 layer thick everywhere minimum....4 layer thick baffle......
port board must be 2 layers as well...
use all thread from front to back on the baffle...
bolt the damn thing to the chassis of the vehicle....
just don't be stupid....and you'll be fine.......

sounds like quite a project...i saw a Scion XB with a wall in it...it was a distributors Rockford car...4 15" T2s and that one huge rockford amp...the 4000 watt one( can't think of the name of it...very clean install but it could have used  some batteries cause there were NONE!

is this a daily driver set up or straight spl?
daily i assume?

I was gonna build a wall...........in my house.  I wish I had the motivation to do a wall in a vehicle.  It looks like lots of fun, and imagine the hapiness you get once you let it wang.  Damn families!!!

Marshall is right about the tuning, the extra db or so gained isn't worth trashing the suspention on your subs in a higher tuned box playing music.  Tune around 30Hz and go....  A little lower won't hurt, but I like 30 most of the time...  That is where I tune about 75% of the boxes for cars anyway...

Weight savings and a proper wall don't go together...  I used 6 sheets of 3/4" MDF and 4 gallons of resin for the Durano wall...  That is over 400lbs in wood alone....  Weight savings come at a great expense, in both SQ and output and $$...  Thier are materials that are much lighter than MDF, but cost like 2-3X as much and you will have to end up coating them with 20 gallons of deadener to get them to shut up....

Tell your buddy to buy some stiffer springs for the rear and just pretend everything is normal, that is the easiest way....  Also, a wall doesn't weigh much more than 3-4 of your drunk ass buddies, so hauling them around or a wall is really no big deal...  And the wall won't throw a beer bottle at a cop car...

Marshall knows more about walls than pretty much anyone else you'll find on the Web, I'd bet money on that.  If you take his pointers, you'll do just fine....

ill def. listen to marshoo... i think he has built a few walls in his day.

my buddy is all about pretty stuff so we will see how he trims it all out.  I am just the box design guy.

Never tossed together a double thick box before, but I am sure it wont be much of a problem.  My buddy an I are both little guys, so maybe this wall will go together as two boxes.... make it easier to handle.  Bolt them together seperately?

I did the Durango wall in 2 pieces, a bottom and top half.  Laid them together and added another layer of MDF from the inside, worked like a champ....

unfortunatly building a wall is never the same thing twice.
So you can't just say 40x30x36 double thick and go.
Sometimes the contour of the space for it to go in is just not forgiving and you have to take extra time just to get a good flat spot just to start in.
So I can't just give you a formula and go at it.

basically step one......figure out how close you want it.
Get in the scion and pimp lean the seats back to hand job position.
and put the wall right behind that.
Wink...might as well right?
Why sacrifice the sexy time?

So after that you have to make the "dance floor" ...that has to be rock solid and capable of being drilled and bolted from the chassis up to the bottom floor of the wall enclosure.
DO NOT HALF ASS THIS.....
A wall can come at you if not bolted down...
A collision at 40 mph may not kill you ...but it will if the wall comes unattached and chases you into the steering wheel.

Then its back to construction.... 2x thick on everything and make a baffle as thick as you can..... 4x minimum....sky is the limit....and then you can either leave the back wall 2x or you can 2x and use 2x4's...2x4s are light and rigid and add a ton of support to the back wall.

Put 45degree angle peices in the corners.
Glass if you want too..
Round off the edges...
All thread the box to decrease flex ... flex = loss of spl waste of power and performance.  When using allthread....use washers and 2 nuts together on both sides of wood...this is called JAMNUTTING...the first nut holds place and the 2nd nut jams the other one so it doesn't move after the funk is applied.

The it is always a good idea to allthread from back wall to somewhere behind the box to help keep it stable incase of an accident.
I cannot stress this enough.
95honda foamed his wall in...that is basically fool proof...but 85% of people that try to do that will screw up and bulge their bulkheads out and have a big goofy looking bulged panel car from then on.

the rest is basically up to you....that is the basic layout of a good box...construction iand safety is what will make or break you.
If you suck at building, not amount of advise i give is going to be worth a crap.

take pics along the way and we can guide you to the right direction.
Also..if you do want to glass it...gravity is your friend.
Build the enclosure outside of the car....
And glass out in the open air ...being able to lay the enclosure on the sides you are glassing is invaluable.

well no construction yet.  sorry for the lack of updates.  my buddy and i work different schedules and he sucks at building apparently!

I am waiting for him to toss that dance floor in before I go and start building anything.  He is having trouble getting the floor secured to the chassis of the Xb.

Stupid question before I start building...

If this box is small, like 12cf or so, and doesn't go floor to ceiling wall to wall what should i do?

Should i trim the whole thing out with 3/4 to try to seal it?  He aint gonna greatstuff it cause thats a bitch to get out.   This wall might come out someday and I am trying to figure out how to make it at least 90% effective while being able to rip it out.

I think you would want to put trim pieces all around in that case.  Otherwise you would defeat the purpose and benefits of the thing.

Turn it around toward the back door and call it a "very big box".
