Hey everyone, I am new to these forums, but have about a years experience in car audio.
Anyway, just thought I would post my current setup. Or at least what it will be when I get around to installing it.

HU>Stock

Front Speakers>Stock

Rear Speakers>Stock, but disconnected. I've heard a lot of people say that rear fill is unnecessary.

Subs>2 RE8 subs in a 1.3cuft ported box, tuned to 35hz

Amp>Old Jensen XA2250 bridged to 300 watts. yeah I know its a POS, but it was free, and I will be upgrading to a PG Xenon 400.1 with 425 watts later.

so, since this is the first time I've used RE8's I am wondering how good they are, I'm trusting people that have told me that they may be rated 175watts rms, but will take 250 daily with no problem. thats why I am going to upgrade to the PG amp later on. Anyone with experience with these nice little subs, please tell me how good they are.

welcome to the forums
this would probably be more suited in the car audio section but maybe a mod will move it

anyways on to your questions these things are a good little sub....a good amount of output in a small box and with very little power...idk how much your gonna spend on the pg amp but im sure the guys on this forum can help you find a decent deal on an amp.  im guessing these things are a dual 4 ohm coil...iirc thats all they came in.  you will find that these will sound better varying on enclosure type and should sound a good deal better when you get rid of the jensen amp.  95 honda should chime in soon he is pretty much an expert on these things

I know I PM'd you this already, but I'll throw it out in case anyone else is interested-

I've used a bunch of them in about .5ft each @32-35Hz alignments. In my opinion, this is where they sound best. They are reall efficient like this, only problem is that the RE8 has alot of Xmax and not alot of mechanical clearance. What I mean is, it only takes about 150 watts to bottom them out in this alignment, and not only below tuning, so you may have to watch it a bit. If they bottom out, no big deal, just back off on the power a little and you'll be fine... I think you'll be real happy with them. When people talk about all the power they will handle, they usually aren't talking about music, usually test tones at certain frequencies. They don't have super high thermal capacity, but they will soak up 400+ watts each for a few seconds IF you don't exceed the mechanical limits.... Just remember that part.... Anyway, have fun, hope this helps....

got off work early today, went to sound shop where Canaan (guy that sold me the RE8's) works, found out he's out of school for 3 weeks so he had gone back home. Anyway, a guy was buying an amp at the shop, and I showed him my 8's and let him hear them...he was like "Sh!t, thats only those two eights.", and I said "Yeah", he said "How big is that amp?", and when told him that it was only 300 watts, he said "Damn, and their hitting that hard!?"

lol, I love it...I actually believe they're louder than Canaan said. I had them quit, so I pulled over beside a convenience store....turned out one of my speaker wires came lose....anyway, I hooked the wire back up and was doing a little adjusting on the amp, one of the workers in the store came out and very nicely asked me to turn it down, cause it was too loud. Also, yesterday, I stopped at a stop sign, and there was this group of people about 50 ft away, that all turned and looked at my car like WTF?..lol
Bass Mechanik is the shiznit when it comes to thumping.

I love the RE 8s... I had 8 of them in the back of my sisters eclipse for a long time.  Loud as piss... first and last time on the meter was around 148.

She drove that shit around for a long time... it was always awesome watchin all the little drivers thumping away.  The only problem was they would bottom out if you beat on them... that and the stupid cork gaskets.

4cf with 3 areo ports... tuning unknown.  peaked at like 46 in her car.  badass.
