Sweet, did you have to go through a bunch of screening?

YES!!!

Background check, medical screening, drug tests, math and logical reasoning test (scored a 97), and a conditioning test.

I can picture Ron saying: "PAPERS PLEASE,  Are you carrying any of the following contraband: Lord Calvert, Large speakers, or Jaegermeister"

conditioning test?  do they anticipate that you'll be chasing people who try to run through?  was it more of a sprint or medium range jog?

well it was more along the line of a step test(more later), lifting a 50 Lb weight a certain number of times off the floor to a table top and back down to the floor (timed), holding your arms outstretched in front of you for a period of time while simulating holding a firearm, and a series of gettting up off the floor type things without the use of your hands, down to one knee and back up without using your hands, both knees and back up without using your hands.... BS stuff.
Ok the hardest part of the whole thing was a step test, it was a 1 foot tall step (taking two steps on regulation stairs is 14") and you had to step up with one foot, then the other, and then down with one foot and then down with the other. Sounds simple, right? well there is a recording of a guy saying up, up, down, down, up, up, down, down. and if you missed stepping up or down by even a little off the cadence of the tape, you fail. one beat (step) per second for IIRC 7 or 8 minutes. The lady said that most people step up withthe same foot first most of the time in order to keep the cadence perfect all the time, but that is a hard thing to do, most people that fail do so because when they use the same leg as the first step it starts to cramp and when they switch to the other leg as their first step they get out of cadence with the tape and fail. Switching which leg you step first with is hard after repeating the same thing on the order of 200 times.. well and staying with the cadence of the tape.
Basicly you would have to be pretty out of shape to not complete them all. Oh yeah and when we get to the academy in Georgia we have to (get to) qualify with a pistol.. yee haa!! and run a mile and a half in 16.5 minutes, hell i think that is a pace for a brisk walk if i am not mistaken.

Yep, a 16 minute mile and a half is cake, you can walk the second half and still pass if you run decently........  I knocked out a 9:18 mile and a half last year for my annual PT test....

I ran a 6:30 mile the other day.  Hadn't run one in like 8 years, figured I'd see how I'm doing.  not too awful I guess.  I think you can walk a mile in 15 minutes on average, so doing a mile and a half in 16.5 would barely be a jog.
